SPECIAL ABILITIES
ADVANTAGES: |
| APPROACHABLE: There's something very approachable and non-threatening about Gossamer. Meaning that it is often her that people come to with their problems or questions.
ATTRACTIVE: Gossamer has a habit of turning heads where ever she goes, regardless of how she appears, she's just damn attractive.
MATURITY: Despite whatever biological age Gossamer is, she is far more mature than others might assume. This maturity can be seen in Gossamer's dress sense and manner around people. This means that she is often deemed to be older than she is, particularly by people of authority. |
POWERS: |
| GRAVITY MANIPULATION: Gossamer can reduce the effects of gravity, the force that attracts all particles to all other particles. Gravity always exists wherever there is tangible matter. (in dimensions composed entirely of energy, though, gravity is optional.) Gossamer doesn't really negate gravity; she simply lessens or 'dampens' the intensity of what's already there. The gravity remains altered for as long as her power functions. After cessation, the local gravity reassert itself. |
SKILLS & ABILITIES: |
| ATHLETICS: Playing a sport(s), including, but not limited to, baseball, basketball, cricket, football, jai alai, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, tennis, various track and field events, and volleyball. She also have knowledge of injuries and first aid.
BOATING: Piloting any waterbound vehicle, from a jetski to an ocean liner. She can reduce the difficulty to avoid rapids, spot land, build rafts, and other life-saving tasks while on water.
COMPUTERS (Usage): The skill of being efficient when using a computer.
DRIVING: Piloting any landbound vehicle, from a motorcycle to an eighteen-wheeler.
LAW ENFORCEMENT: Cops, robbers, and other interested parties.
OBSERVATION: A general ability to tell when something is interesting or out of place.
SURVIVAL: Dealing with the rigors of outdoor life. Gossamer can use this skill any time she is faced with natural challenges, such as frigid cold, desert heat, starvation, and loss of direction.
TEACHING: The art of passing wisdom on to others.
WEAPON SYSTEMS: The science of complex weaponry. Gossamer can build and dismantle high-powered guns and guidance systems. |
DISADVANTAGES: |
| MORAL CODE: No matter what, Gossamer lives by Superman's code. She will not kill or more importantly, allow someone else to kill or be killed by there actions or lack there of regardless of the situation or mitigating circumstances. Likewise, and to a lesser degree, they will not permit others to be harmed and try to minimize property damage where possible. Saving lives takes precedence over all, even over catching the bad guys. Needless to say there are times when this code causes problems.
MORTAL: When it comes down to the nitty gritty, Gossamer is mortal. Regardless of any armor she might wear, weapons she might carry or even performance enhancing drugs she might take, Ayla is only flesh and blood. Her body is as susceptible to pain, injury and disease as that of the next person. Regardless of how often she trains or how intensely she trains, or how much she tries to push her physical limits, she is mortal and subject to the physical limits of being mortal. She can be permanently hurt or die. |
EQUIPMENT
UNIFORM: |
| Ayla has bright red hair and wears a blue custom with large white arrows pointing upwards to symbolize her power over gravity. Her mid drift is exposed. |
EQUIPMENT: |
| FLIGHT RING: Standard Legion Issue. The Legion of Super-Heroes' flight ring was originally designed by the Invisible Kid, he noted the unique anit-gravity properties of Coluan waste materials which he fashioned into the first of the Legion Flight Rings. Since their creation, ring has been refined so as to grant the wearer the following abilities:
- ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION - offers protection agains environments that are hostile toward or unable to support sentient life. It protects up to a temperature of around five thousand degrees (a star) or as low as near Absolute Zero (space). It also allows it's wearer to breathe in an airless environment (vacuum, under water) and can filter harmful or alien substances.
- FLIGHT: The primary aspect of the ring is it's ability to grant it's wearer the ability of wingless flight, based upon the natural or enhanced speed of the ring-wearer. The ring creates a personalized anti-gravity field around the wearer which allows self-propulsion through open space (hence, they are able to function in the vacuum of outer space). As a result, faster Legionnaires will be able to fly faster, and those who already are capable of natural flight will find an enhancement to their speed.
- HYPER-SPACE COMMUNICATOR: allowing Legionnaires to communicate across interstellar distances.
- SUB-SPACE TRANSMITTER BEACON: allowing for Legion tracking equipment to track the Ring anywhere in known space.
- UNIVERSAL TRANSLATOR: allow two way communication between the Legionnaires and other races, translating the Legion's Interlac into the other race's native tongue and vice-versa. However, languages that do not share the same language 'tree' as Interlac are not able to be translated.
The Rings themselves seem to be self-sustaining, the half-life of the dense Valorum having not yet been determined.
OMNICOM: Standard Legion Issue. The Omnicom is a communication and information-display device originally developed and supplied by Brande Industries. All current Legionnaire Standard Issue Omnicoms are made by Brande Industries. With 5,000 viewing channels, a full audio-visual interface for recording, lockable file storage, environmental scans for safety and life signs, simple genetic scans, the sprocking Encyclopedia Galactica! Plus it's automation tools great for filing paperwork.

HISTORY
Ayla Ranzz was used to being overlooked, being the only female child in her family, and having an older brother that was always screaming for attention. Her parents never seemed to have time when she was little. It always seemed that the only one who ever took notice of her was her twin brother Garth, and then only when he was jealous of her.
But the sibling rivalry didn't really get to Ayla, and she managed to maintain an upbeat outlook on life, befitting one who grows up in the temperate climes of Winath. She even remained cool-headed when she, Garth and their older brother Mekt crashed on the planetoid Korbal. Mekt had decided that it would be fun for them to go joyriding. She knew they shouldn't, but when Garth begged her to come along, she relented. When they crashed, Mekt came up with the idea of recharging their spaceship by luring the native lightning beasts to them.
Unfortunately, though, the beasts found the trio first and blasted them. They were knocked out and eventually rescued. When they finally awoke, each discovered they had been granted powers. But for some reason, only Ayla's was different. While her brothers each gained the ability to manipulate electricity, she discovered she could reduce gravity.
The day finally game when Mekt, who had been growing more and more erractic, finally disappeared. Garth, having always idolized his older brother, took off to find him. She wanted to accompany her twin brother, but remained behind and became more devoted to her parents, vowing never to cause them the pain of losing her. At first, Ayla had kept her abilities a secret from her parents, and Garth's departure caused many Winathians to reject her as a "solo," but these troubles ended when she was forced to use her powers to save her planet's presidents' from terrorists, earning her great celebrity and acclaim.
Now celebrated as a local hero, Ayla searched for a way to help others with her amazing abilities. Soon, word had come out that the wealthy industrialist R. J. Brande had formed a team of young people with amazing gifts, calling them the Legion of Super-Heroes. Ayla was incredibly surprised to find that her twin brother was one of the three founders. He had finally made good, and she was proud of him.
Eventually, Ayla made her way to Earth. She wanted to see her brother again, and to join his Legion of Super-Heroes. And while she was admitted to the super club, she found that Garth was constantly treating her like she needed to be protected. Understanding that this is simply how brothers are, she set out to change his mind. To prove to him that she could take care of herself and that she could take care of others.
As Gossamer, Ayla has become a valuable member of the team. She's managed to prove that she is her own person, and not just her brother's sister. And she knows that there is still so much more out there for her to do.
