XPG's RULES

Character CreationCharacter CombatPlayer ConductCharacter Posting

  1. PLAYER BEHAVIOR: Play nice. Treat the other Players with respect, don't flame, or otherwise engage in unrequested criticism, don't (intentionally) ignore Tags and, above all, keep it positive.
  2. PLAYER CONFLICT: If you have problems with another player KEEP IT OFF THE LIST! Try dealing directly with the other Player to come to a mutually satisfactory resolution. If you try and fail THEN contact the Moderator.
Sometimes a Player will slip up-but try to apologize if you do. The Moderator will tolerate almost anything except overt rudeness to another player or writing for another Player's Character. Players violating this rule will receive ONE WARNING and then be unceremoniously booted.
Strong personalities sometimes call for strong measures. The Moderator will take whatever measures we deem fit to keep the game rolling smoothly for the maximum number of Players.
  3. STORYLINES, APPROVALs: All PCs and all Major Plots MUST be approved by XPG's Moderator. (A Major Plot is defined as one involving three or more Players.) If you have any ideas on how you would like to evolve, grow or change your character within the context of XPG (i.e., plot wise), Please address these ideas, requests and or possible questions to one of XPGs Moderators. If it is not cleared, the storyline will not exist and will be dismissed as a post.
  4. POSTING: CHARACTER ACTIONS & DIALOG: Do not write dialog for or move another Player's Character without that Player's express written permission. This includes powers such as Mind Control, telekinesis and teleportation. In a fight between two characters, do not write damage for another Player's Character.
Note: It is assumed that the players are competent enough to be able to accurately write a result of their character being possessed, teleported, etc, based on their ability to resist and the power/skill level of the attacker.
  5. POSTING, CONSISTENCY: Please keep your character consistent. If they are extremely afraid of something, make them come off as extremely afraid. Play within the confines of your character. Do not use knowledge your Character lacks and don't use abilities your Character does not possess unless you are a extremely gifted writer and can come up with a convincing (or at least entertaining) explanation!
  6. POSTING, RESULTS: Generally Players will be allowed to write their own damage and they should do so in accordance with the situation. The Moderator may hurt or even kill a PC if the Player fails to account for damage taken during a fight (so try to avoid writing such a scene!)
  7. POSTING, PROOFING: Clean up your posts. Remember that God (well Apple and IBM anyway) gave us Spell Check for a reason. Remember to summarize your post to make it easier for the player responding to keep track of what is being responded to.
When posting and indicating a character speaking, "Your character's dialogue belongs between quote marks." When writing a character's personal thoughts, ::Your character's thoughts belong between double colons.::
  8. POSTING, MINIMUM POST LENGTH: No one-line posts. Period. One-Liners will result in an automatic warning. One-Word posts will automatically result in your being banned from this site. The reason is that these posts are boring and often frustrate the hell out of other people. When writing, please think of how your character is reacting to things, and write it. People do more than just say lines. All posts need to be at leastÊ100 words, thoughÊ150 is preferable. The exception is OOC posts, which should be brief and to the point.
  9. POSTING, QUOTAs: XPG requires players to post a minimum of three times a week. If you must be away you must notify the Moderator since prolonged unexcused absences (more then three weeks) may result in a player being dropped from the game (especially if it is known you are around and posting in other games!) Not following posting minimums for a week could result in the character being inactivated or moved to available status.
A player is responsible for a minimum of 3 posts per week, per character that they have.
  10. CHARACTER DEATH: Dead is Dead. The Moderator may kill a PC (if that character was written into a place they can't escape) or a Player may kill their own Character-but death is final. Any resurrections must be cleared through the Moderator and don't expect it to happen unless you have that story line pre-approved. Players can not kill Cannon characters without prior consent.
  11. REMEMBER THE CAVEAT: to Whom much is given, much is required.
Players who give their characters all the advantages should not complain if they get crapped on. Since we're not using points it's the only way to keep the game fair.
  12. CHARACTERS: Threes the law. Players are allowed a total of three (3) active characters at any time on XPG. A player may have one (1) Feature or Cannon Character (FC or CC), and two (2) Original Character (OC). A player may choose to have three FCs, or two FC's and one OC, but not two/three OCs. Your first character must be a FC. There is only one exception to this rule; As Marvel has notoriously few gay characters, XPG will allow a gay/lesbian player to make a gay/lesbian OC as their first character or revise an FC as being gay if a reasonable argument can be presented.
NOTE: A reasonable argument is one which constitutes more then "He was wearing pink while gardening" or "She was wearing overalls and fixing a mountain bike."
  13. POSTING, RATINGS: It's called Sex and Violence for a reason, not Sax and Violins folks. We allow graphic displays of love, sex and affection and yes sometimes its liberally sprinkled with huge amounts of mayhem and violence. XPG is an NC-17 rated site, that said we are not looking for posts which are simply pornographic. You may imply that your character had sex with another character, or themselves, or even a small farm animal if it serves a purpose. You may denote these events in extremely graphic detail. You can go as far as Quintin Tarintino might if he didn't have to worry about studio profits. But, if a post contains gratuitous sex or violence, it must be labelled as such in the header as follows: RATING (Contains X, Y and or Z). This rpg is meant for people over the age of 18 interested in Roleplay, not pornography. Sex, violence and cursing are all allowed so long as they are handled tastefully as opposed to exploitively. Players should label posts with violence or language so those easily offended by such can avoid them.
Those easily offended should ask themselves why they're here because if posts are labelled and rated, and people complain, our first question will be 'Why did you read it?' and the second will be 'Why are you here?'.
  14. BECAUSE IT's LAME: While we want you to have fun, were not going to post some sort of LAME statement about the fact that we want you to enjoy yourselves. We've built a very comprehensive site, our intent should be obvious. Please respect it and the wishes of the site's creators.
